Cheers guys, and cheers to all those who came along to make it a great day. Particular thanks to The Wasps (nee Blaggers) who brought their 222 with them for added authenticity!

The good social and fantastic day's training and gaming.

Cheers again to Pete who assisted me with his excellent knowledge and advice.

A very enjoyable day, things I learned (or re-learned):

1. Comedy (floral arrangement) helmet camouflage works. (This is a lie - I re-cam'd once in position.)
2. Smaller numbers = more tension and much easier to speak to everyone at some point in the day. (I always feel guilty when running a CiA game 'cos there just isn't time to 'circulate')
3. Set ambushes don't work when the enemy takes a different route. :slap:
4. Keep still and an enemy can walk over you and be none the wiser. 8)
5. Time flies when you are inching on your belly towards the enemy on a recce, half an hour is nothing.
6. My observational skills have taken a turn for the worse.
7. Don't be clever and break cover when you hear Dave's K98 shot ping off a tree, smug in the knowledge that you can get to cover before he reloads. 'Cos Che is sitting near him with an AEG ready to mow you down. :slap:
8. Kings Arms mid caps are great! Used them in the Sten for the first time and it was a bit of a revelation. I have a pathalogical fear of being 'caught short' with low caps and I end up giving a quick burst then moving position and swapping to a new mag. The result is a bag of part used mags that may have 5, 10, 20 or maybe 40 rounds in 'em so I have no clue what I have remaining and worse, I will end up having to slap in a half empty mag. :slap: These mid caps are a comfortable compromise between 'realism' and practicality. For me.
9. Airsoft can be great fun without the airsoft. That is to say - enjoyment for me is inverse to the number of BBs fired.
10. It's perfectly possible to rack up kills with a gun without a hop.
11. Giving Forester a clear target so he can go home happy that he shot Chomley is a sacrifice worth making.
12. Carly has better observational skills than Headshot :D

Thanks to Pete and Stephen for giving up their Sunday to provide enjoyment of others, its much appreciated. Sorry about missing the Grand Prix in the line of duty Pete (again!!).

Funniest moment. On recce exercise endex thinking "hah, just two of us within 20ft listening and observing" only to see the whole group stand to their feet entirely circling the camp!

I have to add to the thanks as well. Even after years of running round in the woods playing soldiers and trying to make it realistic, I still learned a lot. I'd love to do more of that, and I agree about sneaky games being just as much fun as all out war.

More training days please.

Thanks to all who came yesterday and for the effort you all put in. It's a pity that more didn't come for the social, you missed a good night! This kind of event is as much about staying in touch with fellow players as it is about playing/training, as we don't really see each other that often throughout the year.

The camp setup by Dave, John, Keith and Trevor was brilliant and the 222 is even more impressive in the flesh! The hotdogs and the bacon butties were very much appreciated.

I'm glad that you found the training useful and there were some excellent performances on the concealment exercise and the final recce mission. The skills improve the more they are used and if there's the demand there for further training days, I'm more than happy to be involved. I hope Vincent enjoyed his time among us and, whenever I take a photo now, I'll say "Dunkirk" instead of "Cheese". Now, I'm off to find a squirrel to shoot.-- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available --

Needless to say I had excellent time this weekend. The casual nature of the day made it more like a social event than anything else. A chance to catch up (and have a drink or two) and have fun with no pressure of limited time or keeping everyone entertained as you get with larger events.

Despite elements of going over some of the same stuff for those that attended Pete's last training day I still found it very interesting and informative. The different terrain completely changed the nature of the excerises, and the pracice is always welcome. Running the excerises with mixed groups was good as well, giving people a chance to play along side those they would normally be shooting at.

The final excercise/game was also really enjoyable, the suspense of expecting an ambush at any moment is as exciting as any firefight. Despite knowing we had the upper hand in numbers the Germans had to move very cautiously as the Allies put into practice what they'd learnt throughout the day waiting for us. Moving forward we (well Keith did- I missed him) spotted one ally and when we opened fire the whole rest of the unseen Allied team appeared from the undergrowth. Its just a shame you put you're ambush in completely the wrong place on the way back!

Thanks to Pete and Steve for putting the day on and putting us through or paces, as well as our F&O hosts and the blaggers 'WASPS' for setting up the lovely camp and providing the hotdogs that subsituded for a kebab at 2am. :good:

Great day, great fun and many things learnt and put into practice from the last training day.
I for one would be interested in more of this stuff, learning is fun :D . The last exercise shifting the box accross the site was great, plenty of tension and no shooting until we got back. For me that somehow makes the point doesn't it? The weapons became a tool for the days exercises rather than an end in themselves. Fantastic. Put my name on the top of the list when you plan the next one Pete. :good:
